Pre-concert talk: Free, one hour before the concert.
“Stinking Music” was how one Brahms-loving critic described Tchaikovsky’s Violin Concerto (the two were big rivals), but audiences have gone on to prove him really rather wrong, the concertos’ sweeping melodies, radiance and cheerful demeanour winning them over time and again. Rimsky-Korsakov’s musical take on the Arabian Nights is very different in feel - sensual, mysterious, richly-spiced and effortlessly beautiful.
Free pre-concert talk at 6.30pm.
